Chamber of Commerce hears appeal for new library building

Yorba Linda was working on plans for a new library building way back in 1936, said March Butz, head librarian of the Yorba Linda District Library, to the Chamber of Commerce Monday evening, at their meeting in the Friends Social Hall. What happened to the plans nobody seems to know, but it was a time when there were more ideas than money.

Now, Mrs. Butz stated, the little library is bursting at the seems. You ought to see the weekly visits of some of the classes from school, she said, some with 38 students.

She announced that the board of trustees, Valdo Smith, president, Olive Crist, and Ruth Munger, members, have started to work with a specially appointed library committee of the Rotary Club, L. W. McLennan, Whit Cromwell and Lloyd Zimmerman, to make a study of the project. And she urged all Yorba Lindans who are interested in a new library to get behind the project and help make it possible.

After a short business meeting presided over by President Jack Casparie, the vice president and program chairman, Val Julian, introduced the chamber's candidate for queen of the Orange County Home Show, Miss Vickie Corn, who entertained with two soprano solos, Habanera, from Carmen, and Danny Boy. She was accompanied by Faith Lucas.

The Home Show queen contest, Mrs. Julian announced, is to be held May 15, at the Fairground, and she urged all local C of C members to try to attend the event.

A picture, “They Also Serve,” was shown, telling the story of the many volunteers among business men who actively support the Boy Scouts program in addition to those who actually work with troops.
