Plans to expand the Yorba Linda Library have been postponed till January for further review by the City Council.

The council voted 4-0 Tuesday to delay its discussion on the project until the city's Town Center revamping effort is mapped out. Councilman Michael Duvall was absent.

Library Director CarolAnn Tassios had requested approval of $450,000 by the council Tuesday to begin work on the [1] expansion plans.

While council members agreed that the project is the right thing to do, they do not think this is the best time to make commitments.

With the ongoing Town Center plans still in the works, Mayor Ken Ryan said that the library proposal was simply “premature.”

Ryan affirmed that the council did not want to delay the library discussions for a year but rather wanted to wait a couple of months until further ideas have been finalized on the Town Center revitalization—which borders the library site at 18181 Imperial Highway.

Councilman Allen Castellano also expressed concerns about approving the architectural contract for the library prior to establishing a team for the Town Center.

“It's not that I am against it, Castellano said, “it is just that the timing is not right.” [2]
