Descriptions of the proposed new library building was disclosed to the Yorba Linda Rotary Club last Friday, when the library board, the librarian and the designer were invited to the club's meeting of an informal discussion of progress.

Charles Wickett, Fullerton architect, presented the beautiful watercolor drawing of the planned building. “We have kept it as simple as possible,” he said, “putting all the funds possible into floor space. Yet it will be a building you will be proud of.” He explained that tilt-up wall construction will be employed, with flat roof. The floor space will be 60 X 100 feet, divided into three main areas; youth area, adult area, and a working area. The building will be air conditioned.

The trustees of the library district, Valdo Smith, Olive Crist and Ruth Munger, answered questions regarding the plans for bringing the project into the final stages. Off-street parking will be provided for 16 cars, they said, in addition to the parking on the three streets adjoining the library. Plot and parking area have been approved by the county building department, they reported.

The building will face Lemon Drive and lie between Olinda and Plumosa Avenues.

The board estimates the construction and furnishing of the building will require $80,000, which would have to be raised by voting a bond issue. They have invited all residents who live in the Yorba Linda Library District to visit the library and see the plans.

There are only four county library district in the State of California, Valdo Smith said. Most cities which are not served by municipal libraries have branches of a county library. We buy our own books, make our own selections, conduct our library without being dependent upon any governmental decisions or control.
