The Woman's Clubhouse was filled to its bulging capacity Friday evening as over 200 C of C members ad guests enjoyed a good meal put on by the women of the Friends church, and heard an excellent speech by Congressman Richard Nixon, Yorba Linda's most famous native son.

Mr. Nixon came through with just the story the members and guests had hoped for; the inside details of the espionage investigations of the House Un-American Activities Committeee. He told of how Elizabeth Bentley had become involved in carrying secret information to a communist agent, and in confessing had implicated several government officials. He cited case after case of suspected communist agents, who as witnesses before the committee, refused to answer questions on the ground that anything they said might tend to incriminate them.

While no convicting information has been obtained as yet by the committee, Nixon said, the committee has brought many things to light which will make it possible to bring our espionage laws up to date. The best way to protect the loyal government workers, he said, is to prosecute disloyalty. And the legislation which is now pending will drive the Communist movement out in the open, he stated, so that the public, as well as government authorities, will be aware of what it is trying to accomplish.

Rep. Nixon made two suggestions for combatting Communism in the United States; tell the truth about Communism, with its slave labor camps, restriction on churches, etc., and teach the truth about the United States in the schools. “Tell the drama of America,” he said. “Tell how seven percent of the people of the world produce over 50 per cent of the world's goods. Tell about our freedom, and tell how we have recognized the dignity of the individual.” He wanted that we must make other people want the kind of government we have, and said that one of the requirements in doing so is to make the American people appreciative of their own blessings.

Americans must keep themselves constantly informed, the speaker told his audience, and must vote to make our system of government always better.
