Approximately 250 interested people attended the dedication services held Sunday afternoon at President Richard M. Nixon birthplace in Yorba Linda Sunday afternoon. Purpose of the get-together on the President's birthday was the dedication of a flag pole and historic marker by the Mojave Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The program was arranged by the DAR and opened with a short concert by the 3^rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band from El Toro.

Invocation was delivered by Lawrence Lang, past president of Los Ninos Society Children of the American Revolution.

The flagpole, which was donated by Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Thompson of Fullerton, former residents of Yorba Linda, was erected several weeks ago through the courtesy of Shell Oil Co. and Pacific telephone.

Since then the DAR placed a bronze plaque on a cement marker, which was the purpose for the dedication.

Mrs. John F. Olsson, a Mojave chapter president, presented a national flag for dedication, and Mrs. William L. Goldie, past grand president of the Native daughters of the Gold West presented the state flag.

A squad of four Marines served as color guard and raised the two flags on the pole.

The pledge of allegiance was led by Gregory Richter, president of Los Ninos Society CAR, and the American's Creed was led by Mrs. Franklin Frickey.

Greetings from President Nixon and Gov. Ronald Reagan were read by Mrs. Vincent J. Musso, chapter regent, while messages from the various state and national legislators were read by Mrs. William T. Davis, chapter historian.

The President expressed extreme pleasure that the DAR were dedicating the plaque on his birthday at the site where he was born in Yorba Linda.

Mayor Henry Wedaa of Yorba Linda expressed his pleasure at having the out-of town guests present for the occasion. He also read a communication from Congressman Charles Wiggins regarding the steps necessary for the establishment of the site as a national historical place.

Before this can be accomplished there is a matter of securing the property by the Nixon Birthplace Foundation from the Yorba Linda School District.

The dedication of the flagpole was presented by Mrs. Ronald L. Thompson, third vice regent of Mojave Chapter, and the historic marker dedication was made by Mrs. W. Harold Lang, Placentia chairman of the chapter USA bi-centennial.

Donald Nixon, brother of the President, and his wife, Mrs. Clara Jane Nixon, of Newport Beach, were present for the ceremonies.

Judge Raymond Thompson of the Superior Court was unable to deliver the benediction because of illness but he sent his regrets.
